John RiceWater Solutions

Water treatment services in Bucks and Montgomery Counties

John diagnoses the actual problem before recommending any equipment, then designs, installs, and services the system your water actually needs. Here's what we diagnose, treat, and install.

Water testing and diagnosis

Water testing is always a good practice and can provide valuable insight into your water quality. When testing is needed or preferred, John often recommends independent laboratory testing to provide the most comprehensive and unbiased analysis possible.

With over 35 years of experience, John can also often recognize water conditions based on the symptoms you're experiencing, his extensive knowledge of the local area and water conditions, and an evaluation of your water, so testing isn't always necessary to identify and address problems. When appropriate or requested, John can perform in-house water testing as well.

Whether independent testing, in-house testing, or no testing is needed, the goal is the same: accurately identify the problem and recommend the right treatment solution for your specific water conditions.

  1. Step 1: John learns what you're seeing and where your water comes from
  2. Step 2: He evaluates your water, with lab or in-house testing when it's needed
  3. Step 3: You get a recommendation for what your water actually needs

Signs you may need it

  • You just bought a home with a well
  • Something changed: taste, smell, or stains
  • You want to know what's in your water

What we offer

  • Diagnosis based on your symptoms, water source, and an evaluation of your water
  • Independent laboratory testing, recommended when testing is needed
  • In-house water testing when appropriate or requested
  • Existing system evaluation and troubleshooting

Water softener installation

Hard water carries dissolved calcium and magnesium. It leaves white scale on fixtures and inside water heaters, spots on dishes and glass, and makes soap hard to rinse. A softener sized to your water and household removes the hardness at the point it enters the house. We install and service softeners on both well water and public water across Bucks and Montgomery Counties.

Signs you may need it

  • White scale on faucets and showerheads
  • Spotty dishes and glassware
  • Soap that won't lather or rinse clean

What we offer

  • Water softener systems
  • Sizing to your water hardness and household use

Iron and sulfur removal

Iron stains sinks, toilets, and laundry orange or brown. Hydrogen sulfide gives water a rotten egg smell. Each takes different equipment, the right system depends on the levels and what else is in the water, and many wells have both.

Signs you may need it

  • Orange or brown staining
  • A rotten egg smell, often worse with hot water
  • A metallic taste

What we offer

  • Iron removal and iron breaker systems
  • Sulfur and rotten egg odor treatment

Acid neutralizers for low pH water

Acidic water (low pH) turns up on many private wells. It can eat at copper plumbing and leave blue-green stains on fixtures. An acid neutralizer raises the pH before the water reaches your pipes.

Signs you may need it

  • Blue-green stains in sinks and tubs
  • Pinhole leaks in copper pipe
  • A metallic taste

What we offer

  • Acid neutralizers
  • pH correction systems

Carbon and whole-home filtration

Carbon filtration takes out chlorine taste and odor, and whole-home filtration treats the water at every tap in the house, including sediment filtration for grit and cloudy water. These work on both well water and public water.

  • Grit in aerators or cloudy water
  • Off tastes or odors throughout the house

What we offer

  • Carbon filtration systems

  • Sediment filtration
  • Public (municipal or city) water treatment

Reverse osmosis drinking water systems

A reverse osmosis drinking water system gives you better-tasting water right at the kitchen tap, for drinking and cooking.

Common questions

How much does a water softener or treatment system cost?

It depends on your water conditions, your treatment needs, system sizing, the equipment required, and the plumbing at your property. Every job is quoted individually, so you only pay for what your water actually needs.

When do I pay?

Payment is due when the job is complete and you're satisfied with it.

How do I get my well water tested?

Call or text John at (215) 518-5862, or schedule a free consultation on this page. When testing is needed, John often recommends independent laboratory testing for the most comprehensive and unbiased analysis, and he can test in-house when appropriate or requested.

Does every customer need a water test?

Not always. Testing is always a good practice, but with 35+ years of experience John can often recognize the problem from your symptoms, his knowledge of local water conditions, and an evaluation of your water. Whether independent testing, in-house testing, or no testing is needed, the goal is the same: identify the actual problem and recommend the right treatment.

Do I need a water softener?

If you see white scale on faucets and showerheads, spots on dishes, or soap that won't rinse clean, your water is probably hard. Knowing how hard it is lets the softener be sized correctly.

Why does my well water smell like rotten eggs?

That smell usually comes from hydrogen sulfide. If you only notice it in hot water, the water heater may be part of the cause. John works out the source before recommending sulfur treatment, so you don't pay for equipment that misses the problem.

What causes orange or brown stains in my toilet and sinks?

Usually iron in the water, which is common on private wells. An iron removal system sized to your water is designed to take it out before it reaches your fixtures and laundry.

What causes blue-green stains in my sink or tub?

Usually acidic water (low pH) reacting with copper plumbing. An acid neutralizer raises the pH before the water reaches your pipes.

Do you install reverse osmosis systems?

Yes. We install reverse osmosis drinking water systems, plus carbon and whole-house filtration.

Can you fix a system another company installed?

Yes. John regularly gets called to fix systems other companies installed. We service, repair, and redesign existing systems, including ones that were sized or installed incorrectly or never solved the problem.

Do you work on well water and public water?

Yes. We treat both private well water and public (municipal or city) water.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes. Installations are backed by a warranty, and we guarantee the system we recommend will address the specific water problem it's designed to solve.

Do you work with plumbers and builders?

Yes. Plumbers, builders, and contractors bring us in as their water treatment specialist for their customers and projects.

What areas do you serve?

Bucks County first, plus Montgomery County, nearby Pennsylvania areas, and select areas of New Jersey. That includes Doylestown, New Hope, Perkasie, Quakertown, Chalfont, Lansdale, and Harleysville.
